Local Place Plan

What is a Local Place Plan?

A Local Place Plan is an expression of community's aspirations and solutions which can influence the local planning policy.  It sets out priorities for future development in an area, as well as helping communities to develop and deliver their own projects.

Local Place Plans have been introduced as part of The Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 to support communities to have a more direct role in shaping their local area.

The Act states: “A local place plan is a proposal as to the development or use of land. It may also identify land and buildings that the community body considers to be of particular significance to the local area.” Local Place Plans that meet the legal requirements can be registered with Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Once registered, the plans must be considered by the Council when producing a new Local Development Plan (LDP).

How do I get involved?

There will be a number of events at the Hub where there will be theme specific sessions and the opportunity to complete the Place Standard Tool which is a series of questions about the local area split into 14 themes.  Every resident within the Eskdalemuir Community Council area will have the opportunity to provide their input and ideas.

The results received will then be used to produce a draft Local Place Plan which the community will be able to view and comment on before a final version is agreed and published.
