Eskdalemuir Local Place Plan
What is a Local Place Plan?
A Local Place Plan is a way for communities to express their vision and ideas for the future of their area. It not only highlights priorities for development but also helps bring community-led projects to life, giving residents a real voice in local planning policy.
Introduced under The Planning (Scotland) Act 2019, Local Place Plans empower communities to play an active part in shaping their surroundings. This legislation gives people a more direct role in deciding how their local area develops.
According to the Act: “A local place plan is a proposal as to the development or use of land. It may also identify land and buildings that the community body considers to be of particular significance to the local area.” Legally compliant plans can be formally registered with Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Once a Local Place Plan is registered, it must be taken into account by Dumfries and Galloway Council when preparing the new Local Development Plan (LDP), ensuring community voices help guide future planning decisions.
How do I get involved?
Join us at the Hub for themed sessions, where you’ll have the chance to complete the Place Standard Tool—a set of questions about our community divided into 14 themes. Everyone who lives in the Eskdalemuir Community Council area is invited to share their views and ideas.
The feedback collected will help us create a draft Local Place Plan, which the whole community will be able to review and comment on before the final version is agreed and published.
